As the pandemic continues into the winter months, the precautions and steps needed to be taken to maintain our health and well-being have evolved into protecting our environments to in turn, protect each and everyone of us.
In this new normal, offices and commercial spaces must transform into safe and protected spaces for people. A key element for the creation of protected spaces is hygienic floors. Protected floor covering are much more than just regular standard flooring, they are designed to play an important role in protecting the health and wellbeing of employees, visitors, and customers by actively aiding the elimination of germs and viruses from their surface.
Think about it, flooring is the largest surface that we’re constantly interacting with, and as we move indoors more now as winter creeps up, infections will increase! So, protected floors contribute a great deal to our overall health by curtailing the spread of viruses and keeping us safe.
PB-Protect Flooring Solutions for the New Normal
In support of this, our quest to create plastisol’s to offer protect of floor coverings was vitally important to serve the markets with a product that would be in demand to the fight of infection. So, here at Polyblend we developed a range of Antimicrobial and Antiviral plastisol’s which achieved certified status, which we named a PB-Protect.
This range of speciality, premium-grade plastisol’s which can now be manufactured as antiviral and/or antimicrobial to produce PVC or Acrylic coatings, which offer innovative solutions to make surface coatings hygienic through product protection and complimenting existing cleaning protocols.
Certified to Protect.
In independent laboratory tests, PolyBlend’s PB-Protect Antimicrobial Plastisol has also shown to offer a reduction in bacterial growth of 99.94% when tested to ISO 22196.
Also, PB Protect Antivirus plastisol has been tested independently, demonstrating a reduction in SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, on their surfaces. When tested to ISO 21702:2019 we have seen a reduction in SARS-CoV-2 on the surface of over 94% after 24 hours when compared to a control.
Therefore, results show that PB-Protect coatings are an effective way of inhibiting microbial growth with antimicrobial protection which can be used in many different industries and environments.
Why is Antiviral & Antimicrobial Plastisol important?
As the leading producer of liquid PVC solutions, widely known as plastisol’s, we knew it was imperative to have a product on the market that is not only above industry standard but also utilising specific Biomaster antimicrobial technology. This technology uses bespoke additives to create products that have permanent inbuilt protection against microbes even showing effectiveness against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, such as MRSA & VRE.
With the Biomaster technology incorporated into the plastisol at the time of manufacture. Our innovative mixing method ensures the additive is ‘locked-in’ to the polymer matrix of the PVC or Acrylic coating, which offers product protection for the intended lifetime of the end-product. This proven process gives antimicrobial product protection to our customers and their end-user or consumers.
As a global society, we are aware at how the recent pandemic has fundamentally changed the world as we know it, and hygiene is at the forefront of our minds now more than ever before.
With health-conscious environments and consumerism on the rise, it plays a large importance on maintaining positive hygiene in all areas of life, including the products in which are used.
What are the benefits?
From the ground-up, as one of the largest surface areas, flooring is one of the most overlooked, yet hugely impactful, elements of the environment for infection to spread.
Through protecting against infection by prevention, the flooring area selected should be specified to the space with the right surface coating to optimise:
